The Janok Foundation, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) in the Ablekuma Central District, has intensified its HIV/AIDS education with the distribution of 1,500 condoms in some communities in Accra.
The communities are James Town, Bukom, Aayalolo (Arena) Trotro Station, Zabon Zongo and Abossey Okai to create awareness and to encourage the people to go for screening to know their health status.
Some of the targeted people were mothers clubs, drivers, sachet water vendors, church members, food vendors and the youth, who they were sensitized on the need to abstain from unprotected sex, which could lead to acquiring diseases like HIV and AIDS.
Madam Jane Amerley Oku, the Chief Executive Officer of the NGO in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said her organisation had also embarked on the programme for effective and sustainable house-to-house campaign to promote hygiene to curb the spread of TB as well.
She cautioned, saying; “We cannot be complacent about the diseases as they can spread and leave an impact which would take years to reverse,” hence the strategy aimed at creating more awareness to address them.
Madam Oku acknowledged the contribution of the National TB Control Programme under the “Stop TB Partnership” programme and its partners for their support to the Foundation to enhance awareness creation.
