Mr Charles Owiredu, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has underscored the importance of protocol in carrying out tasks successfully. “It is my firm belief that the more accurately we can follow protocol, the more accelerated our development as a people,” Mr Owiredu remarked on Tuesday at the opening of the second edition of the ‘Protocol Matters 2018 Conference and Exhibition’ in Accra.
“After all if each of us is adhering to the correct, convention of completing tasks, we will each be contributing a meaningful quota towards national development.” The two-day conference, which is being organised by Prosline Events Ghana Limited is on the theme “The Importance of Protocol in Tourism, Corporate Life, Security and Inter-State/Inter-Faith Relations”.
It aims to assist in the knowledge of fundamental principles of protocol to improve the image and productivity of the individual and institutions through effective protocol. It is also aimed at equipping institutions, event managers, churches and hospitality operators with cutting-edge skills for the protocol industry since the cornerstone of all functions and events rests on the recognition and effectiveness of protocol procedures.
“Indeed what can be properly done without the observance of appropriate protocol? Protocol, in general terms, may refer to the correct, conventional procedures to be followed in doing something. It may relate to some of the simplest things as talking and to complex things as organising a presidential ball. Everything, therefore, must of necessity be grounded in protocol,” Mr Owiredu stated.
“Let us for a moment imagine how awkward it seems whenever we found an otherwise nicely dressed gentleman has missed one of the belt holes in his trousers,” he said. “You will agree with me that this seriously depreciates the dressing and the esteem we have of the person. In the same way, when we miss one little protocol detail, we mess up an otherwise beautifully executed task.”
He explained that an understanding and appreciation of the basic tenets of protocol was an important ingredient in successfully carrying out tasks. The Deputy Minister further commended Prosline Events Ghana Ltd for the laudable initiative in conceiving and sustaining the conference on protocol matters for the second successive year.
Mr Daniel Prosper Blagogee, Executive Director, Prosline Events Ghana Ltd, said: “It is a fact that, we all want to be treated as queens and kings at any event, and there are skills that need to be displayed to achieve that”.
“It is even said you ignore protocol issues, you risk having a flawed programme.”
He explained that in other words, protocol issues should be at the heart of every event.
Professor Audrey Gadzekpo, Dean, School of Information and Communication Studies, University of Ghana, who chaired the function said following protocol was a sign of respect and that it also demonstrates professionalism.
