The Alhaji Dr Adamu Iddrissu Foundation in partnership with The Royal Bank has provided boreholes to the Adu Kofi and Bepoase communities in the Ayensuano District of the Eastern Region.
Other beneficiary communities to recently benefit from the benevolence of the Foundation are Nyawer Kplandey near Somanya in the Eastern Region and Kwegyir Aggrey Senior High School in the Central Region.
The support brings to 102 the total number of boreholes constructed and handed over to needy communities across the country since the inauguration of the Foundation in August 2014.
Residents of these communities can now breathe a sigh of relief because the Foundation through its “Water for Life” project has constructed and handed over a borehole to each community to alleviate the persistent water shortages in the communities.
Ms Patience Lartey, the Administrator of the Foundation, speaking at the handing over ceremony at Bepoase, called on the people to take good care of the mechanized borehole in order for it to last and serve them for a long time.
Nana Toah Yirenkyi, the Chief of Bepoase, stressed that “the painful and stressful days of competing with animals and traveling long distances in search of potable water are now over.”
He expressed happiness that, due to the benevolence of The Royal Bank, the perennial water shortage, which had impacted negatively on the socio-economic and cultural activities of the people, was a thing of the past.
Nana Yirenkyi said with the construction of the borehole, about 1400 people in and around Bepoase would be free from the numerous water-borne diseases that put a strain on their incomes and livelihood.
He explained that the Bepoase community was very excited by this gesture because the only cassava and palm oil factories, which hitherto was unable to operate all year due to inadequate water supply could now operate and produce at full capacity.
“This will help generate employment for the teaming youth of the community,” he added.
Madam Esther Teiko, the Assembly Woman the Bepoase Electoral Area, thanked the Foundation for helping the community and expressed the hope that other organisations would emulate The Royal Bank and also come to the aid of the remaining eight villages in her Electoral Area.
Nana Adu Odjobi I, Chief of Adu Kofi, applauded the efforts of The Royal Bank and expressed gratitude to the management of the Foundation for choosing the community out of the numerous requests received by the Bank.
“I know you have a lot of requests on your hands, but you decided to come to our aid, and for this, the people of Adu Kofi and its surrounding communities thank you for your support,” he added.
