He said the project was expected to be completed in six months to make the area more accessible to road users.

He added that the ministry was poised to make roads and highways safer and convenient to motorists.

“The attention of the ministry has been drawn to the long queues and sufferings by motorists on the Spintex-East Legon underpass because of the single tunnel for which reason vehicular movement has to be alternated. The ministry will do what is humanly possible to end this traffic congestion,” he stated.

Mr Amoako Attah was accompanied on his rounds by some officials of the ministry, including the Deputy Minister of Roads and Highways, Mr Kwabena Owusu-Aduomi; the Chief Director at the ministry, Ing. Godwin Brocke, and the Director of Urban Roads, Alhaji Abas Awolu.

The team also inspected roads at the Apenkwa-N1 highway as well as some roads in the Dome Kwabenya Constituency.

Value for money

In an interview with the Daily Graphic, Mr  Amoako Atta said plans were far advanced for the commencement of the project and that his outfit would ensure value for money.

“Under my watch, Ghanaians will have value for money and the cost would be immaterial,” he added.

He directed that contractors should give enough public notice before starting work in order to reduce the inconveniences associated with such construction works.

Rehabilitation

In the Dome Kwabenya Constituency, the Minister of State in charge of Public Procurement (MSPP), who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Ms Adwoa Sarfo, called on the ministry to rehabilitate and also construct more roads and drains in the constituency because the existing roads were in a poor state.

She also asked a contractor working on some portions of the roads to speed up work.

“This contract was given to the contractor in 2011 and as of now, the situation on the road gets worse whenever it rains. Something must be done immediately to prevent any disaster as we enter the rainy season,” the minister said.

Ms Sarfo also advised  encroachers against building on watercourses.

Assurance

For his part, the Project Manager of the Bridge Maintenance Unit of the Ghana Highway Authority,  Alhaji Aminu Abubakar, gave an assurance that the rehabilitation of the Apenkwa-N1 highway would be completed in two weeks.

He noted that reactions from some concrete used in construction works caused pores on roads after  years of use.
