The project, which will be executed in collaboration with the Ghana@60 Committee marks the beginning of the second phase of the Ghana 60 years celebrations.

The Minister of Education, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh who cut the tape for the construction of the e-libraries expressed dissatisfaction about the inadequate number of public libraries.

Currently, there are only 60 public libraries throughout the country.

He expressed the Ministry’s commitment to the successful implementation of the projects, saying a “nation that reads is a nation that learns and develops”.

Dr Prempeh said building libraries in deprived areas was key to equipping people with the requisite knowledge for national development.

Mrs Valentina Mintah, the CEO of West Blue, underscored the important role Information; Communication and Technology played in the society.

She expressed the hope that the Library Programme would ensure that the marginalised groups in the selected areas, were empowered with knowledge to participate fully and actively in the society.

“We are at West Blue Consulting are indeed very honoured to be working with the Ghana@60 Committee to support Ghana’s developmental agenda,” she said.

Mrs Mintah said the programme would adopt a Public; Private and Community approach to assure sustainability, which was much needed component.

She said by working with government and community leaders and community members would ensure that the libraries became the focal points for imparting knowledge and not just beautiful structures.

“We will ensure full participation from all stakeholders, from design through build, to management, aiding local employment,” she said.

She said with access to Information and Technology in their local communities, “not only would community members be able to communicate -our girls will learn to embrace femininity whilst being strong, our boys mighty and constructive, and our youth, to dream big; complimented by sound life plans”.

Mrs Mintah said the library programme would cater for the adults and elderly to ensure that they were upskilled to participate in today’s technology world, whilst equipping them to effectively parent today’s “Snapchat” and “Instagram” child.

She called on individuals, businesses, NGOs, among others to engage with the Ghana@60 Committee to lend their skills, passion, financial contributions to developmental projects.

The project is expected to be completed by March 2018 and will be constructed in deprived communities.
