The Director-General of the National Road Safety Authority ( NRSA), Abraham Amaliba, has made a strong commitment to prosecute pedestrians who fail to use footbridges.
He made this commitment during an inspection exercise on Monday, February 10, where the NRSA visited the Tetegu road footbridge project to assess its level of completion.
Addressing the media, Abraham Amaliba, emphasized that his background as a lawyer will contribute to his efforts in ensuring that road safety regulations are complied with.
Amaliba bemoaned the lack of enforcement of road regulations and vowed to ensure that pedestrians who violate the laws are prosecuted to serve as a deterrent to others.
“Pedestrian indiscipline is also a major cause of accidents and so with my background as a lawyer and looking at the law that establishes the NRSA, we have the power to enforce the strict use of the roads and also have the power to surcharge but for a long time, this has not been activated.
“But I can assure you that there is a new sheriff in town.”
