Around 816 people in Bangkok who have allegedly connected to illicit drugs have been arrested during the two-day drug crackdown operations, metropolitan police said Tuesday.
According to Pol Lt Gen Chaktip Chaijinda, chief of Metropolitan Police, since the agency kicked off drug suppression scheme on Jan. 17, it has arrested 64 drug dealers, 122 drug users as well as other 630 involving in narcotics.
Until Tuesday, about 5,095 pills of methamphetamine, 168 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine (Ice) and 19 packs of marihuana were seized after the authorities from 88 police stations across Bangkok had raided 165 targeted communities.
Chaktip said he was satisfied with the operations and will continue until the initial deadline on Jan. 21 in order to answer to the government's policy of combating drug.
The Abhisit Vejjajiva administration has ordered a crackdown on drug trafficking, and set the first three-month deadline for agencies involved to come up with results. The prime minister has ordered the launch of the third phase of the drug plan called Thai Strength Defeats Drugs which started in November 2010 and runs to Sept. 30, 2011.
