Mr John Kwasi Nyoagbe, the Deputy General
Secretary of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), has suggested the need for the educational policies of the country to reflect
the development needs and aspirations of the country.
Mr Nyoagbe was addressing the closing ceremony of an in-service training workshop organized by GNAT and the Canadian Teachers Federation (CTF) for 200 teachers and heads of educational institutions in the Eastern Region at Asokore near Koforidua
He called on the government to adopt pragmatic measures that would attract and retain the best and committed persons to the teaching profession.
Mr Nyoagbe called for investment in educational infrastructure where teachers and students would have conducive learning environment and the introduction of regular re-training of teachers.
The in-service training for the teachers in the Eastern Region is the third in a series of workshops after the Volta and Ashanti regions organized by the GNAT/CTF to update the teaching skills and administration of schools by heads of educational institutions.
The participants were taken through basic and senior high school administration, teaching of English language, mathematics, science, basic
design and French language in basic and senior high school levels.
Nana Akabisah Gyau, the Regional Chairman of GNAT, thanked the Canadian Teachers for their time and resources in making the training a success and called for government support to institutionalize such trainings.
