The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Atwima-Mponua, Mrs Theresa Adomako Tawiah, has said there was the need for a united campaign to help bring down child labour particularly in the
farming areas.
All stakeholders, she said, must pull together to protect children and ensure their growth and development.
Mrs Tawiah was speaking at a durbar to celebrate the "World's Day against Child Labour" at Bayerebon Number Five.
The theme was "Go for the goal - End child labour" and attending were chiefs, assembly members, civil society groups and non-governmental organizations.
Mrs Tawiah urged parents, especially those in cocoa growing communities, not to engage children on their farms.
They should instead put them in school to assure them of better and secured future.
She said the district assembly had voted GH15,000.00 to support planned programmes and activities to help to significantly reduce child
labour in the area.
In line with this, the assembly is providing school uniforms, sandals, school bags and learning materials to children in 15 communities clearly marked for worst forms of child labour.
They are also buying bicycles to help monitor child labour activities.
Mr Abdul Mohammed, the District Social Welfare Officer, urged the people to refrain from engaging children in the application of
agro-chemicals, sending them into mining pits and crop harvest.
