The Northern Regional Library has marked the International Children's Book Day with a call on children to develop the love for books.
Mr. Aaron Kuwornu, the Northern Regional Librarian, said the day had been set aside to celebrate and re-awaken in children and the youth the interest in reading and draw the awareness of the general public to the use of libraries.
Mr. Kuwornu was addressing some students in Tamale to mark the day and urged them to take advantage offered by the Ghana Library Board to use the libraries.
It was under the theme; "A book is waiting for you, find it" and the day was also used to award 12 school children who participated in a quiz and
debate competition with books and certificates while three others who were regular users of the library also received awards.
Mr. Kuwornu appealed to the public and corporate bodies to help with books and cash to stock public libraries.
Mr. Suleman Osman Saaka, Programme Director of School for Life, urged children to develop interest in seeking knowledge and education through reading.
