Christians in Ghana ushered in the New Year with watch-night church services during which they prayed, sang and danced to the glory of God for His enduring mercies that have brought peace to the country.
At the Ghana Police Church, near the Licensing Office in Accra, the congregation sang and danced for more than 20 minutes at the dawn of the New Year.
The Very Reverend Dr J.M.Y. Edusa-Eyison urged Christians to have faith in Christ, be ready to sacrifice, forgive those who have wronged them and to love one another.
He said it was only when Christians forgave those who have wronged them would they also be forgiven of their sins and asked Ghanaians to work harder in the New Year to bring about the needed socio-economic development of the country.
General Overseer of International Central Gospel
Church, Pastor Mensah Otabil, has declared 2010 as a year of breakthrough and said Christians would attain God given destines only if they wholly trust in Him.
He explained that a breakthrough is a significant and dramatic overcoming of a formidable obstacle or when something happens unexpectedly.
Pastor Otabil delivering a sermon to usher in the New Year in Accra on Friday, said God had a purpose for every Christian in 2010 and urged them to adore the lord with all their hearts.
He said spiritual breakthrough occurs when demonic forces flee or when God thwarts the plans of the enemy and redemption takes over.
Pastor Otabil said "In life successful people are those who solve complex problems and so when God drops an idea in one's mind to enable him solve complex problems to make him successful it is a mental breakthrough".
He said people experience physical breakthrough in the form of progress when they are able to endure challenges.
Pastor Otabil said God would direct "his children" to walk on the path of progress.
