The 16 Years hitmaker who turns 40 on December 26 and is currently in a relationship discloses she is just not ready for marriage.
“I am dating a very responsible guy, he is like a father figure to me and a big brother at the same time. The thing is, I don’t have plans of settling down soon. If it happens, fine, but I don’t think marriage is for everyone.
“I love the way we are now, the way we are is cool. I feel I can’t handle marriage, the way we are now is very private and quiet, no family member involved, no drama, no trouble.
“He has changed me a lot. I am not as loud as I used to be on social media. He is very supportive of me and all my businesses and I am very glad to have him in my life,” she told Graphic Showbiz recently.
The last time Mzbel, real name Nana Ekua Amoah, released a song was almost three years ago when she dropped Tongues.
Explaining why she has not been strong on the music front lately, Mzbel said: “Music is kind of on hold for now. The main reason is that when I released Tongues, promoting it was difficult.
"It was right after the general election and I had shown my face as to who I supported, so there was hatred. I went for a nationwide tour but it still didn’t work.
“As things stand now, if I release a song, I won’t be able to promote it and I won’t get gigs because of political reasons. I have about 11 or 12 songs to be released so I put them on my website.
“I, however, have a yet-to-be-confirmed European tour that will take me to about four European countries. At the moment, I am focusing my energy on my pub and other things,” she said.
Mzbel currently runs a one-stop entertainment place called Bela’s, located at Tema West. “It’s a pub, outside lounge, cold room, video room and local bar. We have been operating for the past four months and I will say so far, so good.
“We open from Wednesdays to Sundays from 12 p.m. to 12 midnight. Our only challenge is the road, when it rains, the road is terrible but apart from that, it is very quiet and I love the place. It is like a hideout and it is not doing badly at all,” she stated.
Mzbel also runs Bela Media but she says that is very slow now. “We are into productions and we also rent out equipment, but that is very slow now except for the equipment which some producers rent every now and then,” she said.
On Thursdays from 10 p.m. to midnight, Mzbel hosts Odo Nso on Onua FM and she says the feedback has been amazing.
“They gave me a one-year contract but they were happy with me so they have renewed it. On the show, we discuss sex, marriage and relationships. We also share our sexual experiences.
"I have received some backlash because some people think I am not qualified to host the show because I am not married, but I disagree with them because I have been in a couple of relationships. I enjoy hosting the show because I am allowed to be myself. It is so much fun,” Mzbel said.
