MTN Ghana reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) in Ghana through its endorsement of the SMEGA Awards. Angela Mensah Poku, representing MTN Ghana, emphasized the importance of recognizing and investing in SMEs, citing their crucial role in driving economic development. According to Mensah Poku, SMEs were the backbone of any economy, and their growth and success were essential for sustainable development.
Mensah Poku noted that MTN Ghana was proud to partner with the SMEGA Awards, not just as supporters, but as active partners committed to empowering SMEs. She emphasized that recognition mattered, and the awards provided a platform for SMEs to showcase their resilience, creativity, and perseverance. She expressed her excitement about the potential of SMEs to drive economic growth and innovation, stating that the next big Ghanaian business might come from an SME. She pledged that MTN Ghana would continue to support and invest in SMEs, providing them with the necessary tools and resources to succeed.
Kwesi Fure-Junior, Executive Director of SMEGA, emphasized the organization's mission to provide investment and access to market opportunities, enabling SMEs to grow beyond local markets and become more competitive. The Maltese Ambassador to Ghana, Jean Claude Galea Mallia, expressed Malta's commitment to deeper collaboration with Ghana through trade, investment, knowledge sharing, and business-to-business linkages that uplift both nations.
Margaret Ansei, CEO of the Ghana Enterprises Agency, stressed the need for SMEs to sustain themselves in a globally competitive market, focusing on critical areas like access to finance, digital transformation, skill development, and mentorship programs. Kofi Essuman from the World Packaging Organization highlighted the importance of packaging in product branding and visibility, expressing interest in collaborating with SMEGA.
Speaking to BusinessGhana, Mohammed Abubakari-Sidick, Senior Manager - SME and Public Sector at MTN Ghana, highlighted the company's support for SMEs through its partnership with SMEGA, emphasizing the importance of recognizing and empowering small businesses in Ghana's economy. He noted that solutions such as Y'ellobees, which provides SMEs with a device, data, unified communication, and web presence, would be made available to award winners. "The web presence aspect is particularly significant, as it enables SMEs to access global opportunities and expand their reach," he added.
Aku Shika Diabah, CEO of Yesli Ice and a past winner of the SMEGA Awards, praised the partnership between MTN and SMEGA, citing her positive experience with the awards and the benefits of mentorship and international exposure. She urged stakeholders to support SMEGA, highlighting the benefits of MTN's acceleration programs and pop-up shops for SMEs.
