Melcom Limited, the country’s largest retail departmental store, has launched a new branch at Accra Mall, enhancing the shopping experience for residents, especially during the festive Christmas season.
The opening last Thursday evening marked the third new Melcom shop in a mall owned by South African firm, Lango. Melcom opened the first one at the West Hills Mall in February, this year, and will open another at the Achimota Mall later this month.
Located in the east wing of the Accra Mall where Game packed out from, the new store spans 2,660 square metres and showcases approximately 15,000 consumer products arranged in the signature Melcom layout.
The new branch expands Melcom's network to 68 outlets nationwide, serving customers across various regions and communities.
To celebrate the opening, Melcom is offering a 20 per cent discount on all items at the Accra Mall branch from Thursday, December 12 to Sunday, December 15, this year.
The opening of the new Melcom store at Accra Mall was even more memorable with the presence of the sensational Hip-Life superstar, Sarkodie, as the special guest of honour.
Spectators, shoppers and media professionals lined up from the mall entrance to the venue, eagerly awaiting Sarkodie’s arrival, along with other distinguished guests.
Adding to the festive mood, the leadership of Melcom brought a lively cultural performance by Indigenous Vibes, a vibrant group from James Town in Accra, who entertained the crowd with traditional Ghanaian music, drumming and dances such as kete, blekete and adowa.
Shoppers eagerly filled the venue, creating a vibrant atmosphere filled with music and drumming in anticipation of the official opening.
Among the notable attendees were the Managing Director (MD) of Melcom, Ramesh Sadhwani; the Assistant Asset Manager of Accra Mall, Olympio Agbodza; the Executive Director of Melcom, Sonya Sadhwani, and Melcom Group General Manager, Francis Sam.
Also in attendance were the Marketing Manager for the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Jamil Maraby, and Black Stars Assistant Coaches, John Paintsil and Fatawu Dauda.
The event was expertly moderated by renowned broadcast journalist, Israel Laryea.
In his address, Mr Sadhwani emphasised the company's dedication not only to providing quality products but also to ensuring an exceptional shopping experience for the Ghanaian public.
Mr Sadhwani highlighted Melcom's commitment to supporting local communities through initiatives such as the Melcom Care Foundation, which supported brilliant needy children and the annual blood donation drive to aid the National Blood Bank.
"Today marks an exciting milestone as we bring a new shopping experience to this vibrant mall. At Melcom, we believe in offering more than just products. We strive to provide our customers with the best possible experience," he remarked.
Mr Agbodza explained that locating at the Accra Mall was part of a broader effort to support and promote local businesses, a value for which Melcom was well known.
"On behalf of the owners of Accra Mall, I would like to congratulate Melcom on the successful opening of their third store in our malls. After West Hills Mall, we are now proud to welcome Melcom to Accra Mall with this beautiful new shop," Mr Agbodza said.
Some of the shoppers expressed their excitement about the new Melcom store, thrilled that it has been brought closer to them with affordable prices, especially for the upcoming Christmas festivities.
"Melcom’s prices have always been reasonable, but the 20 per cent discount on all products today is fantastic. I hope everyone takes advantage of it and comes early to shop before the prices change," Eunice, one of the delighted shoppers, said.
