The Ahantaman Rural Bank PLC has donated 20 leather covered mattresses to the Kwesimintsim Government Hospital to take care of cholera patients.
Mr. Benjamin Afful-Eshun, the Chief Executive Officer of the Bank, said the donation was in response to a request put in by the hospital to help manage the growing number of cholera cases in the hospital.
The bank's CEO also presented a cash of GHC1000 to support the hospital to purchase medical supplies to manage the cases.
The GNA was eyewitness to what has become known as "No bed syndrome" as it saw patients at the hospital lying on benches in makeshift wards created to cater for the patients.
Mr. Afful-Eshun said: "In our 40th anniversary celebration this year, a lot of charity work had been done, and we have already closed the chapter, but the cholera cases at the hospital is an emergency. We are glad to have been able to support the hospital."
Dr. Simon Osei Frimpong, Medical Superintendent of Kwesimintsim Government Hospital was grateful for the kind gesture.
He said the hospital recorded its index case a month ago where the victim could not survive due to late arrival at the hospital.
Since then, the hospital records close to 20 cases a day.
Dr. Osei-Frimpong said the hospital staff had been trained to take diligent care of the patients.
He said "One patient can take more than 15 litres of IV fluids to be stable. So, we are asking for help; those who can support us financially or buy the items for us."
