The Jospong Group has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the University of Environment and Sustainable Development (UESD) to collaborate in research in pursuit of sustainable environmental development.
The MoU, initiated through the Africa Environmental Sanitation Consult (AfESC), intends to facilitate future collaboration between the two parties in relation to the establishment of a network in research and education.
In defining the scope of the collaboration, the MoU itemised possible forms of collaborative activities that would bring the parties together in research and teaching, exchange of staff and students for research; joint research activities; joint research grant application; organisation of seminars and courses on subjects established by mutual agreement; exchange of information, documentation and scientific publications; support for industrial placement and assessment of students; and all other relevant activities of mutual interest.
Briefing the media after the signing of the MoU, the Vice-Chancellor of the UESD, Professor Eric Nyarko-Sampson, expressed his excitement about the partnership, stressing that a young institution such as the UESD needed such collaboration to enable it to realise its mission which was to produce graduates equipped with the relevant knowledge and skills to be agents of change in the environment for sustainable development,
The Managing Director of Africa Environmental Sanitation Consult (AfESC), Dr Abena N. Asomaning, said her organisation was equally excited to be part of the partnership, stressing that: “in building the capacity to adequately satisfy the research needs of the Jospong Group, there had always been the search for credible institutions to partner with, and so we identified the similarities between us and the University of Environment And Sustainable Development (UESD) and the need to tap into their resources in advancing the cause of Environmental Sustainability.
“We are equally excited to be on board,” Mrs Asomaning said.
