Nokia extended its Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) portfolio with new indoor and outdoor products, set to hit the market in early 2024.
Its outdoor addition to the portfolio is the FastMile 5G receiver, designed to maximise the use of weak signals outside of the home and comes with “high gain antennas” in a compact form feature which allows for self-installment.
The product features four-carrier aggregation of up to 300MHz of bandwidth, and it will be complemented by a mobile app to help users identify the optimal location for the device.
Nokia cited a study which found operators can save up to 60 per cent of “potentially wasted network capacity” by installing the device in the right place.
Nokia claimed the app can help operators recover 30 per cent of network capacity.
The new indoor offering is dubbed FastMile 5G Gateway 7, utilising dual-band Wi-Fi 7, and supports 200MHz of spectrum to enable improved broadband connectivity over a 5G network.
The company noted the router is powered by its Corteca software suite designed to enhance home connectivity.
Research manager and principal analyst at Omdia, Jaimie Lenderman said: “As the FWA market continues to evolve and grow, operators increasingly need technology options that can maximise the capacity of their network, are easy to install and are capable of delivering the ultimate user experience.”
He added that the devices “check a lot of these boxes” for operators seeking to deploy FWA services.
