The Rental Housing Association of Ghana (RHAG) has been launched with a focus on addressing issues pertaining to the improvement of the rental housing industry in Ghana.
The association would also serve as a voice of advocacy for all stakeholders within the rental housing space in Ghana.
RHAG is made up of property managers, landlords, property managers companies, real estate managers, rental housing management, and brokers among others.
Education, advocating and collaboration
In her address, the co-founder and President, Regina Christian Koomson noted that to create a thriving rental housing community, education, advocacy and collaboration were the keys.
"I have been in the real estate business for about 12 years and I can confidently say there are lots of gaps that needs attention if we want to this industry to improve. This association would bridge the gap between landlords and tenants. To achieve this we all have to be on the same page and it will start with understanding what is expected of each party in terms of rights and responsibilities," she said at the launch which took place on December 27, 2022, in Accra
Mrs Koosom also noted that it was time the rental and housing industry was taken seriously.
"We are the umbrella under which you can find all the players and with one voice, this industry will take back it's glory. There are lots of task, issues to be dealt with but where do you go, how do you start, that is where we come in," she said.
Sensitisation
On his part, the Head of Public Relations and Rent Officer at the Rent Control Department of Ghana, Emmanuel Kporsu assured the association of their readiness to collaborate and sensitise the public about rent related issues.
"We are ready to partner and educate members of the association and the public on laws governing the industry. As a government institution, the Rent Control is mandated to be fair and firm in it's dealing. we also believe that when you know your rights and responsibilities, the person on the other side would know the right thing to do," he said.
Mr Kporsu also commended the members of the association for their effort and wished them the best as their discharged their mandates.
Board Members
The launch also coincided with the swearing-in of board members, the executive committee and the advisory board of RHAG.
The executive board consists of the co-founder and President, Regina Christian Koomson; co-founder and Chairperson, Natasha Osei Antwi; Treasurer, Richmond Osei Antwi and General Secretary, Solomon Mai.
Whilst the board members are also made of Aurelia Peart, Emma Markin Jean and Elbert Allen, the advisory board has Emmanuel Kporsu, Emmanuel Mai and Frederick Opoku as members.
