The stock exchange opened the week on a positive note as a gain in one banking stock drove the GSE Composite Index up by 1.34 points (+0.05%) to 2,557.62. Consequently, the year-to-date return increased to -0.57% while market capitalisation rose by 0.02% to settle at GH¢60.79 billion.
Societe Generale (+3.53%) was the sole gainer in the financial sector, pushing the GSE-FI up by 4.05 points (+0.19%) to close at 2,157.86 with a 0.19% year-to-date return.
Manufacturing stocks recorded no changes at the session, closing at yesterday’s level of 4,612.89 with a -0.87% YTD return.
Activity levels weakened with 122,421 shares valued at GH¢34,872.36 changing hands from 407,175 shares valued at GH¢1,541,578.01 recorded at the previous session. Ecobank Transnational Incorporated (ETI) dominated trades by both volume and value, accounting for 87.08% of total volume traded and 45.85% of total value traded.
We expect trading activity to increase ahead of 2018 full year earnings results.
