The five-day course was to afford the officers the opportunity to help train farmers to produce good quality fish that could compete on the international market.

The course also seeks to deal with food safety and environmental management of fish farming.

The training program saw participants drawn from five regions including Greater Accra, Volta, Central, Western and Eastern Region.

Dr Peter Zeda, a fish health expert, said the certification process for the fishery workers includes educating them on the sort of measures they should adopt for the fish farms for them to produce safe fishes for local consumption and for export.

He said the Aquatic Animal Health Policy is providing the direction and also has legal backing, through which they have developed protocols to regulate fish farming in the country.A participant, Mrs Hannah Agyei-Boakye, the Eastern Regional Director of Fisheries Commission, said the training has afforded them the opportunity to learn practices that will meet the requirement of the fish trade and also enable them support farmers to produce fish with the desired qualities.
