A large number of people, both Ghanaians and non- Ghanaians from across the country, gathered at the Independence Square this morning to witness the swearing in and inauguration of President-elect John Dramani Mahama and his Vice President-elect Paa Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur on Monday in Accra.
The Electoral Commission declared President Mahama winner of Election 2012.
The Ghana News Agency observed that though the public gallery was full with several people standing without seats many more people clad in the National Democratic Congresses (NDC) colours as well as the national colours of red, gold and green were also trooping to the venue to witness the ceremony.
The streets around the venue, the ministries area and the high street were virtually been turned into markets as scores of traders made brisk business selling NDC paraphernalia as well as food. Madam Beatrice Ansong, who was trading in NDC paraphernalia such as T- shirts, hand bands, said sales were good.
Some of the people who spoke to the GNA said they cake from the northern part of the country to witness the inauguration and added “President John Dramani Mahama has made us proud hence the need to come and support him."
