Most Ghanaians have welcomed the inauguration of President John Mahama as the new president of the country and expressed optimism that the President would work hard to meet the expectations of all.
"I am very happy today because the President has taken office and the smooth ceremony was a sign that he really won the December general elections" Mr Richard Owusu Nyarko, Ward Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at Kwawu in the Eastern Region who was in Accra to witness the inauguration, told the Ghana News Agency in Accra on Monday.
He described the inaugural ceremony as well organised with security at its best.
The Reverend Fred Deegbe, General Secretary of the Christian Council of Ghana, told the GNA in a telephone interview, lauded general arrangement of the events and the fact visiting Presidents and past presidents shared pleasantries with President Mahama.
"That protocol arrangement of allowing visiting Presidents to greet the new president is very innovative," he said.
Rev Deegbe said President Mahama's inauguration speech covered the challenges and opportunities that existed in the country and called on all to work together to achieve success.
"I was impressed about the whole organization of the inauguration," he said, adding, “the presence of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) could have probably made it extra colourful but their absence however did not take anything away from the celebration."
Ms Akosua Addo, a trader at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle, said she really was not bordered much about the inauguration, saying, "whoever is sworn in as the President of Ghana- is well and good".
Mr Kojo Owusu Asamoah, a civil servant, said it was good that Ghana was once again fulfilling a constitutional mandate in swearing-in President Mahama but “we are also waiting for the outcome of the court case over the election results."
