Political advocacy group, Friends of Doe Adjaho (FODA) is to be transformed into a Doe Adjaho Foundation (DAF) to pursue a broader mission.
DAF's predecessor group FODA was founded three years ago with the limited task of marshaling support for Mr Edward Doe Adjaho's, bid for re-election as Member of Parliament (MP) for the sixth straight time which he did.
Mr Adjaho the first Deputy Speaker of Parliament from January 7, 2008 till midnight of 2012 is now the Speaker of Parliament.
Mr James Gunu, FODA Secretary, was speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Ho, a few hours after Mr Adjaho’s election as the Speaker of the Sixth Parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana.
He said a major wing of DAF will be, a Leadership Development Institute, intended to perpetuate what he called the "Adjaho development inventiveness for Avenor," during his 20 years tenure as MP.
Mr Gunu said FODA would seek collaboration with local and international organizations to run the Institute, whose areas of interest include local governance, leadership, gender, human rights and decentralization, among others.
He said Mr Adjaho's tenure as MP had been associated with unity of purpose of the chiefs and people of the area and raised issues of education to a new pedestal, with thousands of students at all levels benefiting from "Adjaho initiated sponsorships".
Mr Gunu also attributed increased access to potable water, electricity, improved road networks and health infrastructure in the area to Mr Adjaho's leadership acumen.
He said 20 years of Adjaho as MP had changed the face of the Avenor area from a source of agricultural labour and primary agro- produce and poor roads into a bustling business area of the Volta Region, with rising personal incomes.
Mr Gunu said the Institute would bring the "Adjaho- ingenuity" to affect other areas of the region and the country.
Togbe Adifu Aklime IV, Awadada of Avenor and President of the Akatsi District Council of Chiefs, told the GNA on phone that the people of Avenor were relishing in the election of Mr Adjaho as Speaker of Parliament.
He said the chiefs were particularly happy because they spotted the leadership skills in him and with others pushed him into politics.
Togbe Adifu Aklime said no documentation of the development of the Ave-Avenor areas would be complete without mention of Mr Adjaho.
Mr Adjaho before entering parliament in 1992 was a State Attorney.
He had been MP for the Ave-Avenor Constituency for five consecutive periods.
When the constituency was split into Akatsi-South and Akatsi-North, Mr Adjaho stood and won elections for the sixth time as MP for Akatsi-South.
With his election as Speaker the Akatsi-South seat has become vacant.
