Egyptian authorities Thursday said ousted president Hosny Mubarak would be transferred from a prison, where he is serving a life sentence, to a military hospital for medical treatment.
Public prosecutor Talaat Ibrahim agreed to the transfer after a medical report recommended that Mubarak, 84, be taken to the hospital in the southern Cairo quarter of Maadi, said Major General Mohammed Ibrahim, the chief of the Prison Department.
Mubarak was last week taken to the same hospital for medical tests after he suffered head and rib injuries in a fall.
He returned hours later to the prison near Cairo where he is serving jail time for his role in deadly attacks on demonstrators during an uprising that eventually deposed him almost two years ago.
