Mr Henry Ford Kamel, Volta Regional Minister, on Monday commended the clergy for ensuring peaceful elections, saying: "If we are witnessing peace today, then it is you. You used the pulpit to stimulate people towards peaceful elections".
He also praised the media for the significant role they played before, during and after the December 7 polls, and urged journalists to remain professional.
Mr Kamel, who made the commendation in an interaction with a section of the clergy from the region, in Ho, noted that religious bodies especially, churches organised “vigorous spiritual exercises†for the country to stay united during the elections.
He appealed to the clergy to help organise a regional thanksgiving service and to pray for God’s guidance, and added that "We have to pray to God to anoint the President and Members of Parliament to lead the country in the way of God".
Mr Kamel advised supporters of the National Democratic Congress to be civil in their celebration, to promote national cohesion, and those of the New Patriotic Party to put the elections behind them and help build a strong and prosperous nation.
Right Reverend Francis Amenu, Moderator of the General Assembly of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, congratulated President John Dramani Mahama on his election as President on December 7, and called on Ghanaians to seek peace, tranquillity and stability for accelerated growth.
