Assembly Members in the Talensi District Assembly in the Upper East Region, has endorsed the President's nominee, Mr Edward Awunnore as the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area.
The endorsement exercise, which was conducted by the Electoral Commission on Wednesday, saw Mr Awunnore polling 21 votes representing 70 per cent whilst nine people voted against him.
The 37-year-old DCE prior to his endorsement was an English teacher of the Bolgatanga Technical School.
Swearing the new DCE into office, the Upper East Regional Minister, Mr Mark Woyongo commended the Assembly Members for endorsing the President's nominee and admonished the DCE to build bridges of peace.
He impressed upon the DCE to be a servant to the people and not to lord over them and stressed the need for him to operate an open door policy that would bring everybody on board.
Mr Mark Woyongo appealed to the Assembly members to bury their differences and indicated that the creation of the new districts would bring governance and development to the doorsteps of the people.
"We are working on your road and constructing the Pwalugu dam and this will help to reduce poverty in this area, but this cannot be achieved without you giving the newly elected DCE maximum support and cooperation and also living in peace", he admonished the people.
The DCE-elect thanked the President and the Assembly members for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to work harder particularly in the area of revenue mobilization.
"I will work with every member of the Assembly to propel the development of the area forward. Let us also ensure that the forthcoming election is conducted in an atmosphere of peace devoid of violence".
He said the area was abound with rich natural resources including the Tengzug Hills and other rich cultural heritages and said he would ensure that they were taped for development of the area.
This brings the number of DCEs in the Region so far endorsed to two.
In the Pusiga District, Mr. Abugbila Awuni Alhassan was endorsed.
The Nabdam District failed to endorse Mrs Vivian Anafo because she could not secure the two thirds majority votes.
