Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyemang Badu 11, Omanhene of Dormaa Traditional Area, has commended assembly members in the area for the peaceful manner they endorsed Municipal and District Chief executives.
He said by this, assembly members in the Dormaa Municipality and Dormaa East District had not only helped to consolidate peace and unity in the area "but have also explicitly expressed their readiness to bring improvement in the people's standard of living."
Osagyefo Agyeman Badu, who is also President of Dormaa Traditional Council, was speaking in a telephone interview with the GNA.
He said even though the 1992 Constitution barred traditional leaders from engaging in partisan politics, it was incumbent on chiefs, religious and opinion leaders to offer complementary inputs to the political process to ensure peace, unity and the strict compliance to laid-down norms.
He said this way the people would have the opportunity to contribute to and be part of the governance process without difficulty.
Osagyefo Agyeman Badu urged the assemblies to sustain and help improve existing structures to curtail the migration of the youth to urban centres for non-existing employment avenues.
"The two assemblies, after accepting their Chief Executives, are duty-bound to formulate pragmatic policies and programmes for the over-all development of their area.
"Legally the Assemblies are mandated to perform executive, legislative and deliberative functions much of which require consensus building among Assembly Members on one hand and between them and the electorate", the Omanhene, a lawyer, said.
Osagyefo Agyeman Badu appealed to the assemblies to desist from taking unilateral decisions that might not be favourable to the people and had the potential to create chaos.
He pledged the council's support for any programmes designed by the assemblies to enhance the people's living conditions and advised members to perform above reproach to build and sustain the people's confidence in their work.
