The US Consulate-General in Lagos said on Monday that it had not yet received any complaint from US citizens following a warning of a possible terror attack at the weekend, according to the reports of the News Agency of Nigeria.
The US Government warned on Sunday of a possible terror attack on diplomatic missions located on Walter Carrington Street on Victoria Island, Lagos.
Susan Welsh, Head of the Press Affairs Section (PAS) of the Consulate-General, said there had been no complaint yet from US nationals. Although the PAS was not located in the area, there had not been any negative report from the Consulate-General's office, said the diplomat.
Reports from other embassies around the Walter Carrington Crescent, including the High Commission of India, the British High Commission and the missions of Italy, Russia and Germany also indicated that there had been no negative incident.
Meanwhile, the police said although the claim remained unfounded, they were ready to deal with any terrorist threat to foreign missions in Lagos.
Oluyemi Ajayi, the Deputy Spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command said the force had put its Diplomatic Protection Unit on a 24-hour alert.
He gave the assurance that the police would continue to carry out its mandate, with or without any visible or credible threat of attack.
Militants in the Niger-Delta in the heartland of Nigeria's oil industry recently attacked some installations belonging to local and foreign oil companies, including US firms.
One of the main militant groups in the region, the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, claimed on Monday in an e- mail statement that it disassociated itself from the threat.
