Supporters of New Patriotic Party(NPP)in Eastern Region have hailed the nomination of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the Party's Running mate in Election 2008.
Some of the supporters speaking to Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Koforidua on Wednesday, described his nomination as a good omen for the Party and urged their colleagues to rally behind Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo the Flag bearer for victory on December 7.
Alhaji Bodinga, Eastern Regional Second Vice Chairman of the Party, and Spokesman for the supporters denied that Dr Bawumia was not an ardent supporter of the Party.
He said many people including Dr Bawumia, had supported the Party in diverse ways since its formation in 1992 therefore his nomination was appropriate.
Alhaji Bodinga said "Supporters of the Party in the Region would ensure Dr Bawumia's name becomes a household name before the December 7 elections."
He urged Muslims to see Dr Bawumia as a true son of the land and rally behind him and the Party to become the next Vice President of Ghana.
Alhaji Bodinga expressed concern about the propaganda by supporters of National Democratic Congress (NDC) to bring ethnicity into the nomination of Dr Bawumia.
Mr William Kwasi Kwanor, Okere Constituency Chairman of the Party, expressed appreciation for the nomination of Dr Bawumia and said the decision signified a new dawn in Ghana's politics.
He noted that Dr Bawumia's nomination surprised the main opposition NDC because they knew that with him as Nana Akufo-Addo's Running mate, NPP would win the December 7 election with ease.
Mr Kwanor commended the National Executive Committee of the Party for the bold decision to nominate Dr Bawumia and called on all NPP supporters both at home and abroad to support him.
He gave the assurance that the Party would retain the Okere seat.
