Ghana’s efforts to secure sustainable financing for sports have received a major boost following the inauguration of a five-member Resource Mobilisation and Partnership Committee by the National Sports Authority (NSA).

The committee, chaired by the National and African Paralympic Committee President, Samson Deen, was inaugurated at the ESP Hotel Conference Room in Accra last Friday, following a resolution of the NSA Governing Board at its Second Quarterly Session in June.

Mr Deen will work with Yaw Ampofo Ankrah as Co-Chairman, Hajia Zenabu Sulemana and Alhaji Mutawakilu Iddrisu, while Mavis Ekua Enyamah Kwainoe serves as Member and Secretary.

The committee is expected to engage corporate Ghana, development partners, international institutions, sports federations and other stakeholders to diversify funding and establish long-term partnerships for sports development.

Deen said the initiative must represent a fundamental shift from the traditional practice of seeking emergency financial support whenever major competitions approach.

“Resource mobilisation must not mean simply asking for money,” he said, stressing that Ghana was needed a system capable of identifying, financing and developing talent through to elite level.

He also called for a transition from “emergency funding to strategic investment”, while identifying the proposed Constituency Games as a potential national talent-discovery platform.

The NSA Board Chairman, Professor Fred Awaah, described the committee’s inauguration as a significant step in implementing the Authority’s Reset and Transformation Agenda. 

He said state funding alone could no longer meet Ghana’s ambitions for youth empowerment, modern infrastructure and sustained international sporting excellence.

“Traditional state funding frameworks can no longer stand alone,” Prof. Awaah said, calling for innovative revenue streams and high-value partnerships with the private sector and international development agencies.

He charged the committee to pursue aggressive partner outreach, financial sustainability and transparent resource management, assuring members of the Board’s institutional support.

Awaah further said the committee’s success must ultimately be measured by the partnerships secured, resources mobilised and sustainable opportunities created for athletes, communities and sporting institutions.

Deen, meanwhile, insisted that the new approach must produce tangible results, saying the committee should be judged not by meetings or documents, but by “the partnerships we build” and “the resources we unlock”.
