The Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) is set to launch a new four-year Strategic Plan designed to professionalize structures, enhance governance, and ensure sustainable success in Ghanaian sports.
“With this plan, the seeds we have been planting, and those we are about to sow, will begin to bear visible fruits,” said Mr Richard Akpokavie, President of the GOC, in the Committee’s end-of-year statement. According to him, the plan represents a unified vision agreed upon by all stakeholders to elevate every aspect of operations and position Ghana as a sporting powerhouse in Africa and beyond.
Mr Akpokavie emphasized that the GOC will focus deliberately on athletes’ development and women empowerment programmes, adding, “We firmly believe that our athletes are the heart of the Olympic movement, and we are committed to providing them with the necessary resources and support to thrive both on and off the field of play.”
Highlighting his dual role as President of Commonwealth Sports, Ghana (CSG), Mr Akpokavie reaffirmed the GOC’s commitment to fostering an environment where every Ghanaian athlete can realize their full potential and bring glory to the nation.
Reflecting on 2025, he described the year as one marked by significant strides and memorable achievements across Ghana’s national sports landscape. “The past year saw our athletes compete with distinction. Notably, we celebrate the remarkable success of Team Ghana at both the first Africa School Games and the African Youth Games, where our young talents brought home a commendable tally of medals. Individual federations also excelled through various continental and global championships, making Ghana proud.”
Mr Akpokavie further acknowledged the crucial role played by National Federations, whose operational capacity and resilience were strongly supported by the GOC throughout 2025. This support included funding competitions, payment of affiliation fees, and technical guidance, all part of a deliberate strategy that drives the engine of Ghanaian sports.
Finally, the GOC expressed gratitude to the Minister of Sports and Recreation, Mr Kofi Adams, the GOC Board members, and the entire Ghanaian media for their massive collaboration and counsel, which contributed to the progress of Ghanaian sports over the year.
