Ghana’s National Women’s Football Team, the Black Queens, are set to take on Egypt in a 2026 Women’s AFCON qualifier on Thursday, October 23 at 16:00 GMT and head coach of the Queens, Kim Lars Bjokegren, believes that the depth in his squad is better than before.
He said this in an interview with GFA media ahead of the game which is the first of two legs; the winner of the qualifier gets to compete in next year’s Women’s AFCON which takes place in Morocco from March 17 to April 3.
Ghana is coming off a third place finish at the 2024 Women’s AFCON that had Stella Nyamekye and Portia Boakye earn nominations at this year’s CAF Awards.
Bjorkegren was nominated for the Coach of the Year Award and he believes his team will do everything to win the game.
“We know that we have a strong squad that did really well in the summer.”
“I think the depth in our team is a little bit better, so I hope that will be the favour for us looking at the two games. Egypt is one of the most upcoming teams in Africa, actually, so they have also been good now for a while.”

“I know that they have started to invest in women’s football. We have to perform and make sure that we are the better team. We have a great fighting spirit, that we’re fighting for each other and do everything to win every single game” Bjorkegren stated.
