President of the Ghana Table Tennis Association (GTTA), Mawuko Afadzinu, has called for greater inclusivity, innovation, and sustainability as essential pillars for the future growth of global table tennis.
Speaking at the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Summit held in Doha, Qatar, Mr Afadzinu emphasised the importance of creating a dynamic and collaborative platform to foster knowledge sharing and build a stronger global table tennis community.
“Table tennis is more than a game; it is a universal language that unites us across borders,” said Afadzinu. “To secure its future, we must embrace sustainability, innovation, and inclusivity. This summit is a unique opportunity to build bridges, share expertise, and create a lasting impact for generations to come”, he stated.
In his capacity as chairman of the ITTF Sustainability Committee, Mr. Afadzinu led conversations on aligning the sport with global sustainability goals.
He outlined initiatives aimed at reducing table tennis’s environmental impact, enhancing equitable access for developing nations, and promoting inclusiveness across all levels of the sport.
“Sustainability is not just about the environment; it’s about ensuring that table tennis thrives in every corner of the world, from grassroots to elite levels,” he told delegates.
Under his leadership, Ghana has seen steady progress in table tennis, with increased participation in international events and strengthened grassroots development programs.
His presence at the summit not only underscores Ghana’s growing influence in the sport but also highlights Africa’s broader contributions to global table tennis.
“Ghana may be a small nation in table tennis terms, but our ambition is limitless,” Afadzinu said during a sidelines interview. “We are here to learn, contribute, and inspire.”
Mr. Afadzinu also took part in workshops and panel discussions, where he shared Ghana’s experiences and advocated for more support to African federations.
