The Ghana Karate-Do Federation has taken a giant leap into the digital age by signing a landmark agreement with IT solutions provider GIT Ghana Limited to modernise its management systems and enhance the operational efficiency of the sport.
The partnership, officially sealed in Accra on April 3, marks a pivotal moment for the federation as it moves to embrace technology to streamline the organisation of events, improve access to information, and effectively monitor the performance of its athletes.
The Ghana Karate-Do Federation President, Nathaniel Johnson, described the new system as a game-changer that will redefine how the sport is administered in Ghana.
“This innovation goes beyond the Ghana Karate-Do Federation. It’s a system that can serve as a model for other sporting federations looking to improve their visibility, structure and performance,” he said.
However, he stressed that the new system's success would depend heavily on the cooperation of all stakeholders—including athletes, clubs and coaches—to ensure its smooth implementation.
The soon-to-be-launched platform will provide a one-stop digital solution for managing tournaments, registering karatekas and dojos, and accessing real-time performance data. The technology, designed with inclusivity in mind, is being rolled out in four phases.
GIT Ghana’s Executive Director, Silas Peprah, offered insight into the platform's development stages. “We are currently at phase one, which involves collecting data from dojos and karatekas, both within and outside the country.
Once this is complete, users will be able to register, access agreements and explore other important functions,” he explained.
One of the most exciting aspects of the new system is its focus on family engagement. Mr Peprah revealed that parents would be able to subscribe to the application, making it easier for children to get involved in karate from an early age.
The platform is also expected to boost the visibility of dojos and training facilities across Ghana, giving them greater exposure and opening up new opportunities for development and participation.
