Astute football administrator and former Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, has praised Black Stars skipper, Jordan Ayew, for his selflessness during Ghana’s FIFA World Cup qualifier against Chad last Friday.
While commending the team for their commitment on the pitch, Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe was happy with Ayew’s unselfish play, which significantly contributed to Ghana’s emphatic 5-0 victory.
Speaking to the Graphic Sports in an interview yesterday, he noted that such dedication was what Ghanaians had been yearning for, and if the team continued playing with the same determination, they would easily qualify for the World Cup.
“They played like a team, and for once, I saw Jordan Ayew play selflessly. He created space and distributed the ball well, which was wonderful. Before, he used to hold on to the ball too much, but this time, we didn’t see that,” Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe stated.
He further applauded the team for their collective effort and teamwork, stressing that there was no unnecessary showboating or individualistic play, which had previously hampered their performance.
“The overall performance was better than what I’ve seen before. They demonstrated commitment and teamwork more than they used to. No player was trying to play to the gallery,” he observed.
Despite his praises, the former FA boss expressed concern over the team’s approach in the second half, where he believed they lacked the hunger for more goals. He asserted that with sustained intensity, the team could have scored more than five goals.
“The sort of commitment and seriousness I saw, if they had maintained it throughout the 90 minutes, they would have scored more than five goals.”
Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe also urged the players to be strategic and relentless in their match against Madagascar today and emphasised the need for a focused and aggressive approach until the final whistle.
“Whoever they meet henceforth, they should start all out but intelligently. They should not relax until the final whistle is blown,” he advised.
