Hamilton, a seven-time F1 Drivers’ World Champion, stunned the motorsport world around this time last year when he announced that he would leave Mercedes for Ferrari at the end of the 2024 season.
Now, the veteran English pilot is clad in Scuderia red and ready to try and win both his eighth drivers’ title and Ferrari’s first since Kimi Raikkonen triumphed back in 2007.
“I could not be more excited for the year ahead,” said the 40-year-old. "Moving to Scuderia Ferrari, there's a lot to reflect on. To anyone considering their next move in 2025: embrace the change. Whether you're switching industries, learning a new skill, or even just taking on new challenges, remember that reinvention is powerful. Your next opportunity is always within reach. Here's to 2025 - a year of embracing new opportunities, staying hungry, and driving forward with purpose. Let's make it one to remember.”
Hamilton, however, faces an uphill task in trying to bring the glory days back to Ferrari. McLaren, who won the Constructors’ Championship in 2024, are expected to be very strong again – with drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri set to be frontrunners – while reigning Drivers’ Champion Max Verstappen remains the best all-rounder and most consistent performer on the grid.
The Dutchman, now a four-time World Champion, has a new teammate in the shape of New Zealander Liam Lawson. “It’s very exciting,” said Verstappen. “We have seen Liam grow within the Red Bull family and it’s going to be very interesting to work together with the team. I really hope we can do a good job together, to try to improve the car and make it more competitive.”
Ahead of the first Grand Prix of the year, other narratives to watch out for include the fate of rookies Oliver Bearman (Haas), Jack Doohan (Alpine), Gabriel Bortoleto (Sauber), Kimi Antonelli (Mercedes), Isack Hadjar (Racing Bulls); well as the potential revival of Williams, who have big plans and a world-class driver line-up in the shape of Alexander Albon and multiple race-winner Carlos Sainz Jr.
