Ghana's finest golfers are expected to tee off for the MTN Invitational Golf Tournament at the Achimota Golf Course on Saturday.
Christened ‘the Dr Ishmael Yamson MTN Invitational Tournament’ in honour of the board chairman of the telecommunication outfit, the event is expected to attract over 70 golfers drawn from the various clubs in the country.
Last year, the competition produced a new winner in Christopher Mbii at the same venue, while Eric Ofosu-Hene also romped to victory with 38 points when the competition moved to the Bok-Nam Kim course.
With Mbii gradually assuming the tag as the ‘MTN Invitational tournament king’ at the Achimota Golf Course, he will be the main focus of attention as the likes of Ofosu-Hene and other established golfers would be aiming to dethrone him.
The ladies category is also expected to see strong representation which is likely to feature some past winners such as Leticia Amponsah-Mensah, Alberta Lomofio, Georgina Andoh, Flora Hurtubise and veteran Mona Myers Lamptey.
According to the organisers, the theme for this year's event is, ''MTN home broadband, your favourite spot for entertainment, E-learning and many more''.
Attractive prizes
Tee-off is at 8am and the organisers believe that with the array of golfers who will be on parade, the competition would be keenly-contested. They promised prizes like mobile phones and other electronic devices and trophies for the winners.
The MTN Invitational Tournament is one of the biggest competitions on the country's golf calendar with all golfers eager to etch their names on stones as having once won the tournament.
