Stakeholders embroiled in the current controversy surrounding football administration in Ghana, have been advised to soften their stands in the interest of the welfare of the players.
“We should think of the welfare of our youth and players - who are the main architects on the field, some of them had in the past two months not received their salaries, following the impasse.
"Their future and livelihood should remain supreme over all other considerations”, Mr. Kwame Ntow Fiako, former chairman of the Division One League Board told the media in Kumasi.
The renowned football administrator and lawyer was sharing concerns over the world’s football governing body, Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) threats to ban Ghana in the face of the government’s plans to liquidate the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
This comes amidst a corruption scandal led by an investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, which implicated top Ghanaian football officials, including former President, Mr. Kwasi Nyantakyi.
In a statement issued on August 13, 2018, and signed by FIFA General-Secretary Fatma Samoura, said the body was particularly, worried about government’s undue interference in the affairs of the GFA in clear contravention of FIFA statutes.
The statement indicated that based on article 16 paragraph One (1) of the FIFA statutes, the body decided on 11 August 2018, that if the petition to start the liquidation process of the GFA is not withdrawn by Monday, 27 August 2018, the Association will be suspended with immediate effect.
Mr. Ntow Fiako asked the feuding factions to tread cautiously, while an amicable solutions were found to restore sanity in football administration in Ghana.
