A physiotherapist at English Premiership side Manchester City, Robin Sadler, has held a day’s seminar in Accra for 82 physiotherapists and other sports medicine practitioners, to educate them on the best methods and diagnosis and treatment of sports-related injuries, particularly groin injuries, describing them as very debilitating because they could affect the career of sports personalities if not treated with a sense of professionalism.
He said such injuries could also be interrelated and, therefore, needed to be examined with care as it would speed up the diagnosis, treatment and recovery of the injured.
Mr Sadler said organ disfunctions could also cause groin pain. However, such pains, he emphasised, needed to be properly differentiated to determine the nature of injuries for better treatment.
The seminar was coordinated by Dr Prince Pamboe, a member of the Ghana Football Association’s Medical Committee.
Mr Sadler took the participants through clinical tests for groin pain, radiology of groin pain, athletic hip instabilities, the role of hip in athletic groin pain, as well as anterior femoral translation tests, and the need to develop better monitoring of all groin pain in athletes to enhance speedy recovery.
“Groin injuries have no specific period of recovery because they can last for weeks or months... it depends on the nature of injury,” he said.
