Mr. Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum, Nkoranza South District Chief Executive, has urged Assembly Members to collaborate with Unit Committees in mobilizing the people for development.
He said as they engage in self-help projects, support from the Government and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) would be forthcoming.
This was contained in an address read for him at the inauguration of Unit Committees of Ayerede and Donkro-Nkwanta Area Councils at Ayerede at the weekend.
He asked the Assembly Members to work hard to win the support of traditional authorities and cautioned them not to lord it over the people since that could lead to apathy and animosity.
Mr Agyekum noted that the waning communal labour spirit among the people and stressed that the time was ripe to disabuse the notion held by people that government must shoulder the nation’s development.
“It is time we rekindled the communal labour spirit and support all developmental programmes that will make our communities better, socially and economically”, the DCE said.
He asked the Unit Committee members to assist municipal and district assemblies in the mobilization of revenue, proper management of waste and stop the degradation of the environment.
The DCE reiterated that the work of Assembly Members and Unit Committees was voluntary and urged them to serve diligently to maintain the trust and confidence the electorate had reposed in them.
In a welcoming address, Mr. Luggard Bekoe Owusu, Assembly Member for Ayerede, asked the unit committees to organize regular meetings with the people to familiarize with their challenges for support.
Mr. Owusu thanked Nana Noah Kudom, regent of Ayerede and Nana Adonteng Gyimadu II, Odikro of Asuano for their presence at the function.
