Cadres of the 31st December Revolution in the Upper East Region, have marked the 29th anniversary of the event, with a call on public officials to be modest, transparent and accountable in discharging their duties.
A statement issued by the Interim Chairman of the cadres, Mr Alagskomah Asakeya Noble in Bolgatanga stressed that it was very important for people in public office especially politicians to know that one day they would be called upon to account for their stewardship.
“They will be called one day to account for their stewardship to the people of Ghana and we do not want anybody to interpret it to mean witch hunting,” he said.
Mr Noble said as public office holders it was incumbent on them to emulate the good leadership qualities of President John Evans Atta Mills by being modest, transparent and accountable.
He indicated that probity and accountability, which were the tenets of the 31st December Revolution, were still relevant today and should be well embraced to accelerate national development.
Mr Noble called on the government not to be bordered by the activities of the disgruntled detractors who want to draw the country’s development backwards and rather focus on bringing progress to the people who they sought their mandate to govern.
He said the hard work, sacrifice, commitment, selflessness and spirit of volunteerism by cadres had brought Ghana to where it is so far.
Mr Noble entreated teachers and parents to mould the character of the youth and nurture them to be disciplined to enable them become responsible citizens in future.
He asked the youth in the region to take their education seriously, stressing that education is a powerful tool that could be used as a weapon to empower them to improve upon their living conditions.
