Two more former Cameroonian ministers were questioned on Friday for suspected embezzlement of public funds in the on-going crusade against corruption launched by President Paul Biya, which
is popularly being referred to as the "cast the net wider operation."
The ex-deputy minister of finance and economy, Henri Engoulou, and former minister of secondary education Catherine Abena were questioned by
the judicial police in the capital Yaounde.
The interrogation came only two days after the questioning of former minister of basic education, Haman Adama, and the ex- director general of
Cameroonian airports and the Civil Aviation Authority, Roger Ntongo Onguene. A police source told Xinhua that more will follow in "the coming days."The Cameroonian leader has vowed "to mercilessly fight corruption" and reiterated the commitment in his New Year message radiotelevised on Dec. 31 to the nation.
Launched in 2006, the anti-corruption operation has reached a decisive stage with the questioning of the former secretary general of the
presidency, Jean-Marie Atangana Mebara, and former economy and health ministers Abah Abah and Olanguena Awono.
A day after their questioning on Wednesday morning, Adama became the first former woman offical suject to the "cast the net wider operation." On Thursday, Onguene was taken to the Yaounde central prison.
