The Brong Ahafo Regional branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) at a special delegates congress in Sunyani on Tuesday elected a 45-year-old Lawyer, Mr. Kwaku Asomah-Kyeremeh, as Regional Chairman.
Mr. Asomah-Kyeremeh obtained 216 votes to beat his main challenger, Mr. Kwadwo Yeboah-Fordjour, a businessman and a former Regional Chairman of the party, who attracted 173 votes.
Alhaji Shaibu Musah Bamba, a businessman at Wenchi was voted as the First Vice Chairman with 236 votes to beat Mr. Nicholas Asamoah, former NPP Regional Vice Chairman and a tutor at Dormaa Senior High School who obtained 157 votes.
Mr. Cassius Osei Poku, former District Chief Executive for Atebubu/Amanten was elected Second Vice Chairmanship whilst, Mr. Alfred Ofori Annye, former Sunyani Municipal Co-ordinator of the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP) became the new Regional Chief Scribe.
Mr. Alfred Tua-Yeboah, a lawyer was elected unopposed as the Regional Assistant Secretary.
Mr. Dabie Appiah-Mensah, a businessman in Sunyani unseated Mr. Kofi Darko, the incumbent Regional Organiser with 199 votes against 128 votes.
Alhaji Issaka Issah, a businessman in Sunyani was elected Regional Treasurer, Ms Justina Owusu Banahene, the immediate past President of Brong Ahafo Students Union Regional Women Organiser and Nana Sekyere Boateng, a
journalist Regional Youth Organiser.
Mr. Asomah-Kyeremeh called for oneness and hard work among members and supporters of the party to facilitate efforts to recapture political power in Election 2012.
Mr. Joseph Henry Mensah, a leading member of NPP urged the contestants to close their ranks and unite to strengthen the party machinery on the ground, saying the election should be a factor for unity of purpose to position the party for a resounding victory in the 2012 general election.
Mr. Peter MacManu, National Chairman reiterated the need for peace building and harmony at all levels of the party to solidify the NPP at the grassroots to be able to wrestle political power from the National Democratic Congress.
