Slovenia's parliament was expected to oust Prime Minister Janez Jansa in a no-confidence vote Wednesday and replace him with Alenka Bratusek from the opposition.
The vote comes after Jansa's coalition fell apart over a finding by a state anti-graft committee that he had failed to declare 210,000 euros (285,000 dollars) in assets to parliament.
Bratusek will have two weeks to form a cabinet and present a programme to secure parliament's approval, while Jansa's cabinet serves as a caretaker government.
The building of the new coalition is expected to be difficult, as Slovenia is in the midst of the worst economic crisis since its independence from former Yugoslavia in 1991.
Corruption allegations against the leader of Bratusek's Positive Slovenia, Ljubljana Mayor Zoran Jankovic, also complicated the talks, but he has promised to resign and clear the path to the new alliance.
