Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip fired a rocket at southern Israel Tuesday, the first such attack since a truce ended cross-border fighting in November, the military said.
The rocket hit a road in the industrial area of Ashkelon, about 12 kilometres north of the Strip. No injuries or damage were reported, and no warning sirens were heard.
No Palestinian group claimed responsibility for the launch.
Tensions have been rising in the West Bank, where Palestinians have been clashing with troops to support hunger-striking prisoners in Israeli jails, and to protest the death of a Palestinian detainee Saturday.
