The Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG) on Wednesday condemned the decision of the New Patriotic Party(NPP) to boycott the parliamentary vetting of ministerial nominees by President John Dramani Mahama.
AFAG described the NPP decision "as very parochial, unfortunate, extremely partisan and without due consideration to public interest.
"By extension, this decision is not complete, unless; there is a total boycott of parliament by the NPP until such a time that the case is determined by the Supreme Court".
A statement to the Ghana News Agency signed by four AFAG Executives; Mr Henry Haruna Asante, Mr Mutala Mohammed, Mr Arnold Boateng and Dr Nana Ayew Afriye urged the NPP to quickly rescind its decision.
AFAG said the Chief Justice in whose jurisdiction the petition case is being heard was the same person who swore in President Mahama.
AFAG questioned why the NPP had not contested "Her Lordship's legitimate obligation of swearing-in the President."
It reminded the NPP that power abhors vacuum, therefore "it is only right for there to be a President; interim or otherwise."
The statement said AFAG had a firm belief in the court and called on the NPP and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to hold same belief that, “at all instance, the verdict of the court reflects the sovereign will of Ghanaians".
AFAG again commended NPP’s decision to contest the results of the 2012 elections in court.
