President John Dramani Mahama has inspected the proposed site for the construction of a new airport in Wa, assuring residents of the Upper West Region that work on the project will begin soon.
He said the existing Wa airport was originally an airstrip that had become unfit for modern aviation needs, making a new facility necessary to serve the region.
President Mahama said the project could now become a reality because the necessary funding had been secured.
“The Ghana Airports Company has secured the funds needed to implement the project,” President Mahama said, stressing that government was not seeking financing for the project because the money was already available.
He disclosed that the procurement process had been completed and contractors selected, paving the way for construction to begin shortly.
President Mahama said the project formed part of government’s objective of improving domestic air travel.
