The Mion Constituency Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sulaiman Abubakar, has resigned from his position with immediate effect.

In a letter dated Saturday, August 8, 2026, and addressed to the NPP Northern Regional Chairman, Mr Abubakar formally announced his resignation as the party’s Mion Constituency Chairman.

“My resignation is personal,” he stated.

Mr Abubakar expressed gratitude to the Council of Elders, patrons, polling station and electoral area executives, as well as the entire membership and supporters of the party in the constituency, for the confidence reposed in him during his tenure.

He, however, said he remained an ardent and good-standing member of the NPP and would continue to contribute to the party’s efforts to recapture political power in 2028.

“I remain an ardent and good-standing member of the party and will continue to discharge my role as a member to ensure we recapture power in 2028,” he said.

He also wished the constituency leadership continued success and expressed his intention to remain in touch with the party.

The letter did not state the specific reason for his resignation.

His resignation follows barely two weeks after he was declared the winner in the constituency polls conducted by the party.
