The Israeli Ambassador to Ghana, Roey Gilad, has appealed to Christian and Muslim communities in Ghana to pray for peace and tranquillity in Gaza amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine.
Speaking at a meeting with members of the Ghana-Israel Parliamentary Friendship Association on Thursday, February 19, the ambassador reaffirmed Israel’s commitment to peace but cautioned that the country would be compelled to undertake what he described as peace enforcement measures if Gaza fails to disarm.
“The situation is fragile, and I really appeal to the friends here to pray. We all pray to the Lord, whether we are Christians, Muslims, or Jews. If there are any Muslims here, I would also like to congratulate them on Ramadan Kareem.
“We should all pray for peace and tranquillity and stability in Israel and in the Middle East, because I think it will serve not only the people of Israel, but all over humanity,” he said.
Ambassador Gilad disclosed that nearly 2,000 Israeli soldiers have lost their lives in the war since 2023, underscoring the human cost of the conflict.
He further stressed that Israel is not interested in taking over the Gaza Strip, maintaining that the country’s objective is centred on security and peace rather than territorial control.
“The idea is to rebuild Gaza as it is, and for the Israelis to pull back to the international border. We don’t want to be in Gaza. We don’t need it. Let the two million people in Gaza have their own life, as long as Gaza will not threaten the future, stability, and well-being of Israel,” he stated.
