Researcher, financial economist and chartered accountant, Dr. Evans Duah, has projected that none of the five candidates contesting the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primaries is likely to secure an outright victory, except Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.
According to Dr. Duah, while the race remains competitive, data from his ongoing research suggests that if any candidate is able to cross the crucial 50-plus-one threshold required to win the primaries outright, it will be Kennedy Agyapong.
“A lot of people are missing the strategy and, if you ask me confidently, none of the five candidates will cross that 50+1 on Saturday. And if anyone does, it will be Hon. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong. I stand by this, and it is based on data,” he stated on Channel One TV’s The Point of View on Wednesday January 28.
Dr. Duah explained that his assessment is informed not only by empirical data but also by recent engagements on the ground. He disclosed that he travelled across parts of the middle belt and other regions last week, where he held random interactions with party delegates to gauge the mood within the party.
“What is happening on the ground is that, from a strategy and intelligence point of view, there is a lot of social media cosmetic campaigning going on,” he said, adding that such online visibility does not necessarily translate into delegate support.
His comments align with findings from a recent nationwide study he conducted on the NPP presidential primaries. The research, carried out across three survey waves and covering all 16 regions, sampled 40,988 delegates, with 31,556 responses validated.
According to the final wave of the poll, which applied a best-case allocation of undecided voters, Kennedy Agyapong emerged as the frontrunner with 52.59 percent of delegate support, ahead of former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who polled 36.24 percent.
